Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 June 2026
The short version: UrbanIQ measures audiences, never individuals. Our sensors analyse the world in real time and keep only anonymous numbers — no images are ever stored, no faces are ever recognised, and nothing we produce can be traced back to a person. On this website, we collect the bare minimum needed to respond when you contact us, and we never sell or trade anyone's information.
1. Who we are
UrbanIQ is a product of IOTOPIA Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”). We provide anonymous audience-measurement technology for outdoor screens and digital signage. This policy explains how we handle information in two contexts: what our measurement technology does out in the world, and what happens when you use this website. You can reach us any time at hello@urbaniq.au.
2. Our privacy principles
Privacy isn’t a compliance checkbox for us — it’s the design constraint the whole product was built around. Every feature we ship is measured against these principles:
- Anonymity by architecture. Our systems are built so that identifying an individual is not just against policy — it’s technically impossible with the data we hold.
- Data minimisation. We collect the least information required to do the job, keep it for the shortest time necessary, and delete it when it’s no longer needed.
- No surveillance, full stop. We do not identify, profile, track, or follow people — not across locations, not over time, not for anyone.
- Transparency. We describe exactly what our technology does and does not do, in plain language, and we keep this page honest.
3. What our measurement technology does — and doesn’t
UrbanIQ sensors turn outdoor screens into measurement devices. They estimate how many people passed a screen, how many looked at it, and for how long, along with broad, anonymous audience characteristics. Here is precisely how that works from a privacy standpoint:
- No images are stored — ever. Video frames are analysed live, on the device itself, and are discarded immediately. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is uploaded, and no gallery of footage exists anywhere.
- No facial recognition. Our technology detects that a person is present and attentive — never who they are. We do not create, store, or match biometric templates, and we have no capability to recognise a face we have seen before.
- Aggregate numbers only. The only outputs that leave a sensor are anonymous counts and statistics — impressions, dwell time, attention, and broad demographic estimates. None of it is, or can be, tied to an identifiable person.
- No tracking between locations. Each measurement is a moment in time at one place. There is no identifier that could connect a person at one screen to a person at another.
- Nothing to hand over. Because we never possess images or identities, we could not reveal an individual’s movements or appearance even if we were asked to. You can’t leak what you never had.
We believe this is how audience measurement should work everywhere: attention is the product — people are not.
4. Information we collect on this website
This website is deliberately quiet. The only information we collect is:
- What you send us. If you book a demo or email us, we receive the details you choose to share — typically your name, email address, and message. We use them solely to respond to you.
- Basic server logs. Like almost every website, our servers briefly record technical details such as IP address and browser type for security and reliability. Logs are kept for a short period and then deleted.
- Spam protection. Our demo form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps us tell humans from bots. Its use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms. It runs only when you use the form.
We do not run advertising trackers, we do not build marketing profiles of visitors, and we do not follow you around the internet.
5. What we never do
- We never sell, rent, or trade personal information. Not yours, not anyone’s.
- We never use audience measurement data to identify or profile individuals.
- We never combine website data with sensor data — they are entirely separate worlds.
- We never keep information longer than we genuinely need it.
6. How we use and share information
We use the information you give us to respond to enquiries, arrange demos, and provide our services. A small number of trusted service providers (such as hosting and email infrastructure) process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality and only as needed to run the service. Beyond that, we disclose personal information only if the law genuinely requires it — and, as described above, our measurement data contains no personal information to disclose.
7. Security and retention
We protect the information we hold with encryption in transit, access controls, and infrastructure kept deliberately small and auditable. Demo enquiries are retained only as long as needed to have the conversation you asked for; if you’d like your details removed sooner, one email is all it takes.
8. Your rights
We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we apply the same care for visitors from anywhere in the world, including those covered by the GDPR. You can ask us at any time to:
- access the personal information we hold about you,
- correct it,
- delete it, or
- ask questions about anything in this policy.
Contact hello@urbaniq.au and we’ll respond promptly. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here with a new date. We will never weaken the core commitments above — no stored images, no facial recognition, no identities — and any change we make will be in the direction of more privacy, not less.
10. Contact us
Questions, concerns, or requests — privacy or otherwise: hello@urbaniq.au. A human reads every message.
